Barking
Short Eared Owls call with a barking type of sound. I caught this one in the act. |

Boing!
The upside down owl was sitting on the ground. The upright owl kept buzzing over it. Every time it did so the grounded owl would bounce, upside down, into the air. |

|
|
Compact
Owls bodies are kind of stout and compact when viewed from the side. |

Cool Character
You can see the "ears" that give this owl its name. |

Floating
I think this image really shows the gracefulness of the Short Eared Owl in flight. |

Pursuit! (#1)
Short Eared Owls are very territorial and chase each other (and other birds) through the skies. I am amazed at their speed and agility. |
|
|
|
Pursuit! (#2)
These two chased each other around for several minutes, allowing me to capture several frames of the encounter. For those interested, I used manual focus as the action was moving way too fast for autofocus. |

|
Pursuit! (#3)
The last frame I captured during this particular encounter. |

Another Dispute
This was another dispute from the same day. I don't know if they are the same owls. |

Aerial Maneuvers
This was a day when it was somewhat foggy. I just can't get enough of trying to capture images of these guys having their disputes! |

Ready for Flight
Owls have very long wings compared to the length of their bodies. With the wing relaxed you can get a feel for how long it really is. |

Short Eared Flight
I am always amazed at the graceful way owls fly. |

Sttrreeeetttccchhhh....
Either that or this owl always wanted to dance on Broadway. :) |

Yikes!
Short Eared Owls are amazingly adept at aerial maneuvers. These owls were either playing or having a territorial dispute - at one point the locked talons but I failed to capture that image. |
