Pain
I watched this eagle take this mallard drake off the ice. The mallard had nowhere to go - couldn't dive, couldn't get traction to fly, he was easy prey for the eagle. The eagle flew several hundred yards with him before landing. The mallard is still alive. |

Still Alive
The eagle started eating the mallard right away. The mallard stayed alive for about 10 minutes. Sometimes nature isn't pretty, but eagles have to eat too. |

Flying feathers
The mallard is dead at this point but the blood is still very fresh. If you look closely you will see the blood stained feathers in the air. |

He leaves
His mate came in and took over the carcass. I missed the exchange as I watched two swans fly overhead - I was struck by the irony of the grace flying overhead and the death below on the ice. |

Her Turn
He didn't leave much for her to eat. Perhaps she is letting him know how she feels about that. |

The Leftovers
Birds of prey almost always leave the head of their victims behind. I don't know why that is...... |

|
She Leaves
She carefully walked away from the carcass before taking flight. |
